Filing an Ohio Workers’ Compensation Knee Injury Claim
After notifying the employer, an injured worker must submit a First Report of Injury to the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, commonly called the Ohio BWC. Ohio injury claims are barred unless notice identifying the specific injured body part is filed with the Ohio BWC, a managed care organization, or the Industrial Commission of Ohio within one year of the injury.
The same one-year notice rule applies when a worker seeks benefits for an additional body part. For example, a claim that initially identifies another injury may not automatically preserve the right to seek benefits for a knee condition discovered later.
Supporting documentation may include:
- Medical records identifying the diagnosis and treatment
- Incident details explaining when and how the injury occurred
- Descriptions of repetitive job duties connected to the condition
- Work restrictions describing limits on standing, lifting, kneeling, or climbing
We help clients compile evidence connecting their knee conditions to their employment. We also explain the filing process, the issues under review, and the information that may affect the claim determination.
